Drive Angry is the new action thriller from Patrick Lussier, director of My Bloody Valentine. Starring Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, Billy Burke, and William Fichtner, Drive Angry is a thrilling supernatural ride, a tribute to old school cinema with a decidedly modern twist. Lussier has shot the entire film in 3D, ensuring that the movie will have the same gritty yet deep look of My Bloody Valentine, Lussier’s first critically acclaimed 3D effort. Drive Angry was shot on location in Shreveport, bringing that spooky Louisiana bayou charm to the film, while a wide selection of vintage vehicles provide fast paced, high octane fun.
Lussier was one of the first to shoot movies with then-fledgling modern 3D technology, and has been outspoken about it’s correct use in film. Drive Angry promises to showcase more of that talent as the director takes on a decidedly meaner and more action-packed movie than his last 3D effort.
Milton (Cage) is a man who has lived his life on the wrong side of the law, hanging out with the wrong people, doing the wrong things. When he dies, his soul is whisked to hell, but he is later given another chance at freedom, as well as redemption. He manages to escape the afterlife in order to pursue the charismatic cult leader Jonah King (Burke) who has murdered his daughter and stolen her baby with the intent to sacrifice it in a dangerous ritual. Along the way, he meets Piper (Heard), a no-nonsense waitress with a sweet ‘69 Charger and a cocky attitude to match, and find they are fast friends. Together, they embark on a revenge filled, high octane journey to rescue Milton’s grandchild and right a few wrongs along the way.
Meanwhile, Satan’s right hand man, known only as The Accountant (Fichtner), is fast on the tail of Milton and Piper, intent on making Milton return to hell to serve the remainder of his time. As the clock ticks closer to doomsday, Milton must evade The Accountant, confront Jonah, and rescue his grandchild before the world as we know it comes to an end.
